Off to the Loonie Bin!
My sister is back in the psychiatric hospital. I think I might just join her. It would be nice to just kick back in my room and do nothing all day. The reality is that I have been moderately depressed for about six months now. I refuse to take medication but I did break down and call my therapist. I am definitely addicted to TV and laziness and I need to shake myself free from those shackles. "Hello, my name is Dirk Smiley and I am a clickerholic". Ok, I said it. Now what the fuck do I do about it. I am tempted to just shut off the damn cable. But I am stronger than that. I should be able to control myself and act more responsibly. Tonight D has her book club so at least I will not be wasting this evening watching reruns of Deadliest Catch. Instead, I will work a long day so I can have the whole weekend to work on my jeep and yard chores. Maybe I will even go kayaking with D.

I've been without cable for almost three years. It's amazing. There are far better things to see and observe in real life than on TV.
You seem like you're one of those people who fills their life with "activities" to try to feel "un-bored." That's not going to help you.
Leave the house. Go to a bar. Drink a gingle ale in a rocks glass. Pretend it's a drink and listen to the people around you. You'd be surprised how interesting real life can be. ;)
A university is another great place to observe. Why not enroll in a one credit course for fun? Do something outrageous. Maybe even audit one, or just go and be an observer! The shit that comes out of people's mouths is hysterical!
My number one rule is to avoid senseless topics like politics and religion. Those never get you anywhere. Why have a conversation when both parties 'know' they're right.
Dirk.... Turn off your cable.
Love,
Fish
I don't watch much tv. I only have it because of Rach and Dan.
Actually, they are the only reason I had cable installed.
I found I get a lot more done when the tv is off.
And I could rent movies whenever I wanted veg time.
Course now there is tv all over the web.
I have a small 12 inch tv. I gave up most of my material possesions when I moved recently. Because the television is so small, I rarely ever turn it on. It's too difficult to try and watch it when you can barely make out what you're watching.
Life has been less stressful ever since.
P.S. I changed my blog url slightly.
