Get up!
I often feel like most of the passion and zest for life has left my soul and I am just going through the motions of a moderately depressed, but seemingly content person. I yearn for a life-changing event that will propel me forward with enthusiasm and vigor. But sadly (or perhaps thankfully) that will probably not happen. I will have to pick myself up, wipe away the dust, then muster the strength to move forward. That is the way it has always been.

It's critical...and I mean CRITICAL, that you remove your tv from your house. Do it for 2 weeks and you'll see what I mean. And don't replace that screen time for other screen time. Change your situation radically.
Let me also add that your prolific blogging is also contributing to your situational depression. You blog your ever thought, re-read your posts and read them again and then eagerly wait for someone to affirm you with a comment. If I had to guess, you also frequent many other forums and blogs and live in that virtual world. It's a life-sucking endeavor and creates false intimacies.
Push yourself away from the tv and computer.
Sorry for the multiple comments, but I'm basically you and have some thoughts to share.
You can't wait to be motivated by outside forces. In fact, you have to act mechanically and without any sense of excitement or satisfaction.
In some sense, it doesn't matter what you do, but you can't keep doing what you're doing now. For starters, dump ALL screen time for a significant period of time. That alone might elevate your mood considerably. Say goodbye to the blog. It's just more screen time.
Second, take steps to fill your brain with new information. Take up the piano or do something (anything) that will push our your vortex of depressed thoughts and bring in something new. Otherwise, you're stuck looking for a life raft which usually comes in the form of tv, food, alcohol, coffee, anything to provide some temporary numbing. That's not the solution.
YOU NEED NEW THOUGHTS.
